Siaya County will host the 12th edition of the annual Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games from 22–28 November 2025. The event is expected to attract over 10,000 representatives from over 40 counties that have so far confirmed their participation.
The County’s Acting Chief Officer for Tourism, Culture, Sports & Arts, Hon. Judith Oyugi, expressed confidence in Siaya’s readiness to host the games while extending a warm welcome to all participating counties.
Mrs. Oyugi underscored the importance of the games in boosting employees’ mental health, fostering networking, and promoting learning across political and religious divides.
The Chairman of the County Officers in Charge of Culture and Sports (COCAs), Mr. Paul Oluga, also expressed confidence in Siaya as the host. “We are here today to confirm that this year’s KICOSCA will be unique, with 40 counties participating,” he stated, adding that Siaya has the capacity to accommodate the expected influx of visitors.
The County’s Deputy Director of Sports, Mr. John Ang’awa, assured delegates of Siaya’s full preparedness. He confirmed that all venues meet required standards, are located within a 10 km radius, and are suitable for national and regional events.
Mr. Ang’awa noted that teams have been preparing through friendly matches since the last edition in Kakamega County. The games will feature a wide range of disciplines, including golf, handball, chess, scrabble, football, volleyball, basketball, netball, and athletics—with squash as the only exception. Additional events include pool, darts, badminton, table tennis, cultural dance, choir, and ajua, to be held at various venues across the county.
Mr. Ang’awa, who also serves as the Interim National Chairperson of KICOSCA, praised Siaya’s sporting prowess, citing its historical excellence in scrabble, chess, and handball.
Last year, Siaya fielded 18 teams for the 11th edition in Kakamega County, where the county emerged victorious in most events. Notably, the Siaya women’s handball team defeated Bungoma to reclaim the golden trophy while the scrabble team under the captainship of Mr. Willis Ang’awa bagged gold medal. The county choir ranked sixth overall out of 47 counties, fourth in the set piece, and seventh in the Taarab borrowed dance, thanks to an outstanding performance of their original song, “Anga Uzuri Kwa Wanagatuzi”.
KICOSCA was founded in 2013 at the onset of devolution to showcase county sporting talent and celebrate cultural heritage. Since its inception, the games have been hosted in Nairobi, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kiambu, Machakos, Kisii, Kericho, Embu, Kisumu, Meru, and Kakamega counties.
