Under the campaign, the County will roll out certified seeds valued at KES 15 Million, complemented by approx. KES 38 Million worth of ward-based agricultural initiatives across multiple wards. This combined investment is designed to expand reach, improve equity in access to clean inputs, and deliver stronger productivity outcomes at farm level.
In readiness for the exercise, a delegation from the County Department of Agriculture led by the Chief Officer for Agriculture, Elizabeth Adongo held a strategic engagement in Kitale with the leadership of Kenya Seed Company ltd, headed by the Managing Director, Sammy K. Chepsiror. Discussions focused on ensuring timely delivery, incorporating field feedback, and strengthening collaboration ahead of planting.
Securing this partnership is expected to significantly enhance the impact of the LRS 2026 campaign by guaranteeing wider farmer access to clean, certified seed a critical foundation for higher yields and more reliable seasonal outcomes. The delegation also toured seed packaging facilities and warehouses to assess preparedness and quality-assurance systems.
Beyond routine supply, Kenya Seed Company committed to deeper collaboration, including the establishment of demonstration plots across the county, training of farmers and extension staff, and field days to promote practical, hands-on learning at farm level. The campaign sets ambitious productivity targets, including raising maize yields beyond last season’s average of 15 bags per acre. Designed as a farmer-centred initiative, it aims to boost agricultural productivity, create employment, increase household incomes, and improve livelihoods across Siaya County.
The Kitale delegation included the County Director for Agriculture, a representative of the County Assembly of Siaya, and other sector heads from the County Department of Agriculture.
