In line with the mandate of Siaya County’s Department of Governance, Administration, and ICT—which includes coordinating, supervising, administering, and ensuring effective service delivery across the county government and its agencies—the department engaged the Bondo Sub-County administration and other stakeholders in a high-level interactive meeting held in Bondo Town.
Themed “Working Together for Effective Service Delivery, Integrity, and Citizen-Centered Governance,” the event further sought to strengthen cooperation between the county government, the sub-county administration, and local citizens in various sectors, including security, public participation, inter-governmental relations, public health, agriculture, administration, education, leadership, and integrity.
It also focused on improving service delivery by the sub-county administration to local residents. Stakeholders emphasized that strong intergovernmental coordination would benefit residents by streamlining services and reducing confusion over roles and responsibilities.
Presided over by the Director of Governance, Mr. George Okello, the event brought together representatives and stakeholders, including administration officials, partners from both the county and national governments, and private sector entities.
One of the key conclusions reached was the need to establish village administrators across all wards in Siaya County. This initiative will enable the county government to reach residents more effectively through their village representatives for projects and development programmes.
In his remarks, Mr. Okello reminded participants of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on Leadership and Integrity. He highlighted the Do’s and Don’ts and their practical application in the public sector.
The presence of the Chief Magistrate of Bondo Law Courts, Hon. Douglas Ogoti, provided attendees with valuable insights into legal matters, including the reporting of gender-based violence (GBV), institutional responsibilities, and succession management, particularly regarding land and other assets.
In conclusion, the meeting affirmed that sustained engagement between the county and sub-county administrations is essential for ensuring government services are delivered effectively and equitably to all residents of Bondo Sub-County and Siaya County as a whole.
