The County Government of Siaya wishes to address and clarify media reports circulating concerning an alleged assault on a Medical Officer at Bondo Sub-County Hospital on the night of 30th November 2025.
Following a preliminary review of the incident by the Department of Health, there is no evidence to support claims that a county official’s, officer’s, relatives, or any other county personnel assaulted a doctor. The reports circulating in the press are therefore inaccurate, unverified and misleading.
On the night in question, two patients with gunshot injuries were brought to Bondo Sub-County Hospital. One of the patients unfortunately succumbed to the severity of his injuries while the second one was stabilized and subsequently transferred to Siaya County Referral Hospital. Where he continues to receive medical care but has been reported to be out of danger.
During the emergency response, members of the public and relatives accompanying the patients became distressed, resulting in commotion within the facility. This disruption interfered with the normal flow of emergency care and appears to have contributed to the misunderstanding that is now the subject of public discussion.
Immediately after the incident, the County Department of Health convened a multi-stakeholder meeting involving hospital leadership and staff whose formal investigation is ongoing, and its findings will be made public once the process is concluded.
The County Government is aware of the communication issued by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) regarding a suspension of services. We wish to assure the public that we are already engaging the union’s leadership concerning their concerns, provide accurate information, and ensure that health services remain available to residents. These consultations are constructive and ongoing.
The County Government of Siaya is committed to safeguarding the welfare and security of all healthcare workers and maintaining a safe environment for service delivery. We also remain firmly committed to dialogue and collaboration with all stakeholders as the appropriate means of resolving concerns in the health sector.
