The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) today organized a comprehensive sensitization forum for Siaya County Government staff at Siaya National Polytechnic.
The aim was to enhance understanding of energy regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements across the county.
The full-day training brought together county officials, technical personnel, and energy officers together to promote safe energy practices and improve service delivery at the local level.
The event began with an opening session led by EPRA officials, followed by remarks from Ms. Anne Kiprotich, Deputy Director of Public Education and Advocacy at EPRA. She stressed the value of collaboration between national regulatory authorities and county governments in driving energy sector reforms and protecting consumers. A representative from the County Government reaffirmed Siaya’s commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient energy use.
Participants received in-depth presentations on EPRA’s mandate, LPG and petroleum compliance, consumer safety, and electricity safety regulations. The sessions were delivered by technical experts, including Ms. Bessie Atieno, Mr. Daniel Choi, Mr. Peter Kirukmet, and Mr. Felix Ogweno, who addressed emerging issues, regulatory requirements, and practical measures to improve compliance at the county level.
A lively plenary discussion enabled participants to interact directly with the experts, seek clarifications, and address challenges encountered in implementing energy standards across various departments.
The Siaya County Fire Department later conducted a practical fire safety demonstration, equipping staff with essential emergency response skills and underscoring the importance of preparedness in public offices and households.
During the closing session, EPRA officials expressed confidence that the knowledge imparted would enhance Siaya County’s ability to enforce safety guidelines and promote responsible energy use.
This initiative is part of EPRA’s ongoing nationwide campaign to raise public awareness, build safer communities, and ensure compliance with energy sector regulations in support of national development goals.
