Today, the Department of Water, Irrigation, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources met with community members from North Ugenya Ward to deliberate on the proposed establishment of a Hass avocado project.In the meeting, the community recommended the development of an avocado processing plant for value addition under Phase One of the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCa) programme.
This proposal is supported by the consent of residents from the five sub-locations of Ligala, Nyamsenda, Kagonya, Jera, and Sega. The two proposed sites for the facility are Udira Kamrembo and Bendera.Both locations have undergone screening, with preliminary assessments indicating that they are situated on public land.
The meeting was graced by the Chairperson North Ugenya Ward Climate Change Planning Committee Mr. Andrew Alieth, Assistant Chief Nyamsenda Sub Location Michael Nyandege, Assistant Chief Ligala Sub Location Mrs.Grace Owegi among others.
