The County Government of Siaya, through the Department of Health and Sanitation, is rapidly advancing primary healthcare infrastructure with two major projects in Ugunja and Ugenya Sub-Counties.
Today, Chief Officer for Health Dr. Samuel Omondi Owino conducted a supervisory visit to Tingare Health Centre in Ugunja Sub-County, where construction of a new maternity and laboratory wing is nearing completion. Once operational, the facility will greatly enhance mother and child healthcare services ,reduce mortality rates and provide timely care to a population estimate of 18000 people. The project is earmarked for future elevation to a Sub-County Hospital serving Sigomere Ward and neighbouring areas.
The team then proceeded to Nyang’u Health Centre in Ugenya Sub-County, where upgrades to the maternity wing, laboratory, and general infrastructure are well underway. These improvements will enable the centre to provide expanded diagnostic and safer delivery services to an estimate 8100 people .
Both facilities anticipated to be completed in mid-December are being equipped with modern diagnostic tools, including biochemistry analysers, full haemogram machines, microscopes, phlebotomy workstations, and baby and adult weighing scales. Solar-powered water systems have also been installed to ensure reliability and cost efficiency.
These initiatives underscore Governor James Orengo’s commitment to delivering accessible, quality healthcare and bringing modern medical services closer to mothers, children, and communities across Siaya County.
