Siaya County Gears Up to the Host 12th KICOSCA Games.

The County Government of Siaya, led by Governor James Orengo, is making final preparations to host the 12th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games from 22nd to 28th November 2025. The county has high expectations not only for sporting success but also for significant economic gains and domestic tourism promotion through this week-long national event.

Siaya county secured hosting rights earlier this year after an intense, diplomatic, and well-coordinated campaign spearheaded by Governor Orengo himself. The lobbying team included County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts Mrs. Anjeline Oduor; Chief Officer Judith Oyugi; Sports Director Dr. Sanmac Okoth; Deputy Director and National Technical Committee (NTC) Chairperson Mr. John Angawa; NTC member Dr. Kennedy Oreyo; and other dedicated committee members.

Over 36 counties have confirmed participation in a wide range of sporting activities including; soccer , volleyball, netball, handball, chess,scrabble, tug-of-war, athletics, and traditional games.

This year’s competitions will be staged across multiple venues in Siaya County, with the 15000 capacity Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium as the main arena.Additional venues include Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) grounds, Siaya National Polytechnic, Kirindo, Liganwa, Mulaha, Awelo, Ambrose Adeya Adongo primary and secondary schools,various halls in town, and Holy Cross Church Hall for cultural and music events.

The official opening ceremony, to be presided over by Governor James Orengo, will kick off the intense competition for the coveted trophies.

Siaya’s teams are tipped to defend their titles in women’s handball, hammer throw, and both men’s and women’s scrabble. Women’s handball team leader and star player Pauline Awino Owegi expressed strong confidence: “A win is a must. This trophy is already ours we are bringing it home!”

Beyond sports, KICOSCA aims to showcase talent among county government employees, foster unity and cultural exchange, strengthen inter-county networking and team-building, and nurture athletes for potential national and regional representation. For the host county, the games present a golden opportunity to boost domestic tourism and stimulate the local economy.

Siaya anticipates a major influx of visitors, athletes, officials, and sponsors, which will directly benefit businesses.The increased economic activity is expected to generate substantial revenue that will support the county’s integrated development plans and overall growth targets.
