Siaya County Dominates Women’s Volleyball Opener at 11th Edition KYISA Games NYAHURURU, LAIKIPIA

Siaya County made a resounding statement at the 11th Edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KYISA) games, delivering a dominant 3-0 sweep against Makueni County at the Nyahururu grounds.

The Siaya women's volleyball team dismantled their opponents in straight sets (25-12, 25-10, 25-17), leaving Makueni stunned in a match that drew significant attention from the 20-plus counties in attendance.

The victory was anchored by standout individual performances from Rehema Akinyi who led the offensive charge and Nellyphine Adhiambo & Nan Rubbie -The twin-left blockers that provided a formidable wall at the net, proving instrumental in Siaya’s defensive breakthrough.

Coach Geophrey Odeny, celebrating a successful start to his debut campaign, praised his squad's grit.

"This is a historic moment for Siaya," Odeny remarked. "This young team has proven what is possible. This victory restores belief and confidence; we have started on the right foot and are certainly on the right path."

The match followed an official opening ceremony presided over by Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu and Siaya Deputy Director of Sports John Angawa,among other dignitaries.

Beyond their athletic prowess, Siaya County earned accolades during the player verification process at the Ol' Kalou Huduma Centre.Officials lauded Siaya as one of the few counties to maintain total transparency, remaining free of any registration malpractices.

The momentum is expected to carry over into tomorrow's fixtures. Siaya’s football and handball teams are slated to begin their campaigns, facing off against tough competition from Busia, Meru, Kajiado, Makueni, and host county Laikipia.
