The youth of Siaya County continue to fly the county flag with pride and distinction. On the second day of the ongoing KYISA games, Siaya’s vibrant athletes demonstrated remarkable prowess, securing victories in nearly every discipline.
The women’s handball team delivered a masterclass in their fixtures against Makueni and Laikipia, thrashing them 29–23 and 25–14,respectively. Standout players Fridah Oduor and Dorothy Oduor were instrumental, consistently finding the net with powerful shots. Not to be outdone, the men’s team dominated Makueni with a decisive 26–15 victory, fueled by the tactical brilliance of Michael Sigu and Derick Ooko.
On the football field, Siaya’s "gigantic" ladies stood tall, lifting the county’s spirits by defeating Laikipia 2–1 and overwhelming Meru with a staggering 7–1 score line. The men’s team, however faced a tougher challenge despite a spirited effort, they narrowly conceded their matches against Tana River (1–2) and Busia (0–1).
Under the guidance of Coach Hermon Omondi ,the basketball teams showcased exceptional skill:
Women’s 5x5:Secured a strong 37–24 win against Nakuru.
Women’s 3x3:A hard-fought battle ended in a 9–15loss to Makueni.
Men’s 5x5:Delivered a commanding performance against Laikipia, winning 83–57.
Men’s 3x3:Remained undefeated, sweeping West Pokot (21–8) and Makueni (17–10).
Despite grueling weather conditions, the athletes remained undeterred. They drew significant motivation from the County Director of Sports, Dr. Sam Mark Okoth who was a constant presence on the sidelines. Rooting for the teams, Dr. Okoth invoked the "NYALORE" slogan—a reminder that through belief and hard work, "it is possible."
"The NYALORE manifesto and slogan should drive the team with positive energy across all disciplines as they prepare to take on rivals in their remaining games," Dr. Okoth remarked. As the sun set on day two, the sentiment among the players was unanimous, "We can't wait for tomorrow."
