Siaya County Inspects Progress on Key Healthcare Infrastructure Projects

The County Government of Siaya, through the Department of Roads, Public Works, Energy, and Transport, today conducted an inspection of several flagship county healthcare projects.

In East Ugenya Ward, the team visited Bar Ndege (Kanyumba) Health Centre, which was officially launched on 2nd May 2025. The facility, currently at 70% completion of structural works, will include a laboratory, consultation rooms, pharmacy, and observation wards. Upon completion, it will offer comprehensive preventive, curative, and palliative healthcare services to the community.

The team also inspected the Siaya County Referral Hospital funeral parlour, where construction is now 90% complete and is expected to be fully finished by December 2025. The modern facility will significantly improve mortuary services, ease pressure on existing infrastructure, and provide dignified services to bereaved families.

The inspection later proceeded to the site of the new modern Level 5 Referral Hospital, a joint initiative between the County Government of Siaya and the National Government. Once completed, this state-of-the-art facility will feature a mother-and-child complex, emergency and dialysis units, and a 500-bed inpatient capacity, greatly strengthening tertiary healthcare services in the region.

These ongoing projects are designed to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services for Siaya residents, make medical care more affordable, and create both skilled and unskilled employment opportunities for locals during the construction phase.
