Siaya Health Department Steps Up Accountability and Performance Monitoring Across Seven Sub-Counties.
By Sharon Onyango
The County Government of Siaya is strengthening accountability and performance monitoring across its health facilities following a two-day Annual Work Plan (AWP) Performance Review Meeting.
The review brought together the County Health Management Team (CHMT), Sub-County Health Management Teams (SCHMTs) and health facility representatives to assess departmental performance across the seven sub-counties, evaluate progress against planned targets and establish priority interventions for improving service delivery.
Presentations examined key indicators in immunisation, maternal and child health, HIV and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT/ VTP), tuberculosis and malaria across the third and fourth quarters of the 2025/2026 financial year and the first quarter of 2026/2027.
The meeting reviewed performances across seven sub-counties: Alego Usonga, Ugenya, Ugunja, Bondo, Gem, Rarieda and Usigu. Presentations covered county referral and sub-county hospitals, health facilities and aggregate performance reports, followed by discussions on achievements, challenges and areas requiring improvement.
Participants emphasized the need for accurate data reporting, continuous monitoring and stronger coordination between sub-county managers and frontline health workers to ensure planned activities translate into improved healthcare outcomes.
Zilpa Imbuye, VTP Coordinator, emphasised the importance of triple threat testing for HIV, teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence (GBV). She called for intensified awareness, early identification and timely linkage to appropriate health and support services to protect adolescents and young people.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to prioritising corrective actions, strengthening implementation tracking and mobilising resources to improve healthcare outcomes across Siaya County.
