Siaya County is positioning itself as a regional hub for quality healthcare under the Nyalore Administration’s nine-point development agenda, showcased during the National Development Tour led by President William Samoei Ruto.At the centre of the transformation is the expansion of Siaya County Referral Hospital into a modern Level 5 facility. The flagship project, co-funded by the County and National Government, will provide advanced and specialized care for Siaya and the wider Lake Region.
The first phase includes a new outpatient block and a 250-bed inpatient unit and is now about 30% complete.
County Project Officer George Nyamwaji said the County is seeking additional funding for Phase Two, a dedicated Mother and Child Unit estimated at KSh 1.2 billion, to strengthen maternal and child health services.
The project is being implemented by Plumbing Systems as the main contractor, with the KDF project team led by Defence PS Dr. Patrick Mariru, Brigadier Sokobe and Major Obwar. The Ministry of Health was represented by Dr. Hezron Omollo.
The County Government was represented on behalf of Governor James Orengo by Ag. CECM Health Prof. Jacqueline Oduol, Chief Officer Health Dr. Omondi Owino and Project Officer George Nyamwaji.
More than an infrastructure project, the expansion is a long-term investment in a resilient, accessible health system that brings quality care closer to the people.
