Chief Officer for Governance, Administration and ICT, Walter Okelo during an interview with Radio Mayienga, mapped out the development strides in the Health Sector achieved by the Nyalore Government under the Leadership of Governor James Orengo.
Ambira Sub-County Hospital, with a fully equipped maternity wing boasts of its capacity to conduct operations such as C-section. During an interview recently carried out by KTN News, locals said they no longer come to the Referral Hospital for services like C-section. The Governor also spearheaded the recruitment of Two Doctors at Ukwala Sub County hospital. This has greatly improved on the services given to the locals from that region who no longer have to go to private facilities for quality services. Yala Sub-County Hospital, has also befitted by having a gynecologist posted to the Facility.
In his 9-point Agenda, the Nyalore Manifesto, Governor James Orengo assured residents of Quality HealthCare Delivery. He pointed out on the improvement of access to health services by constructing new health facilities and improving the status of all maternity wings within our health facilities as some of the measures his government would take in achieving this Agenda.
The construction of Surgical Theatre and ICU Complex Centre, at Siaya County Referral Hospital comprising of four Operation Theatres, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and a High Dependency Unit (HDU) will be a game changer for the health docket. This will enormously decrease the number of patients who are sent on Referrals to other Hospitals outside the County for specialized care. The Surgical Complex is estimated to cost 68Million.
The availability of a maxillofacial surgeon in the county, is a clear indication of the desire to ensure provision of comprehensive healthcare is achieved. The Surgeon handles a number of facial surgeries such as trauma and aesthetic procedures.
Other issues that were highlighted by the Chief Officer included the deployment of an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist to the Siaya County Referral Hospital. He also pointed out at the Construction of an Emergency and Maternity Complex in Yala Sub-County Hospital as a great Milestone for the Nyalore Administration.
The Employment of 160 staffs stationed in various health centers has greatly improved on the quality of services offered to the people. Similarly, 10 doctors have been sponsored for further training in various fields for the improvement of the quality of the medical staff in the county. Notably, their return is expected to improve the capacity of dealing with a host of ailments within the county.
While responding to the issue of stock out as expressed by Siaya Residents on the lack of drugs in a number of health facilities, he pointed out that the government had secured the supply of drugs through KEMSA. He however acknowledged that some facilities have problems in getting stock of essential drugs, but assured listeners that it will be addressed as soon as possible. Gem residents who called in appreciated the Nyalore Administration for the projects carried out in the various Wards within their Sub County and asked that the newly constructed Sirandu dispensary be commissioned to enable locals acquire services from the facility.
