County Government Allocates Additional Resources for Disaster Hotspots

Following heavy rains that impounded parts of Siaya County, causing human suffering in Yimbo and it's surrounding environments, Governor James Orengo dispatched a team from the county led by Chief Officer for Governance, Administration, and ICT Hon. Walter Okelo, Director Disaster Management Francis Aola, and his metrological counterpart Dominick Arodi, Sub County Admin Vincent Kanyang'oda, area MCA Francis Otiato, and a host of officials in assessment and finding lasting solutions to the tragedy.

The team visited the footbridge located between Yimbo East and the other side of Alego Usonga Sub County that is separated by the River Yala and that saw the only crossing bridge collapse due to excessive rainfall occasioned by marauding flooding in the area.

According to area residents who accompanied the team, the bridge breakaway had caused the unexpected loss of life to one area resident, Mr. Luke Otieno, and the disappearance of three cows.

Governor James Orengo, through his Chief Officer Walter Okelo, sent his condolences and promised to offer substantial support to the affected families.

He has promised to offer a lasting solution through the allocation of additional resources in his administration for any future occurrences, noting that his administration has put in place humanitarian assistance that will see aid for what occurred.

"The County Government will distribute farm inputs and relief assistance to those whose lives depended on the submerged River Yala banks," said Mr. Okelo while receiving the report after the assessment tour by the disaster management team early Tuesday.
