Betika Partnership: Officials Assess Progress of Siaya County Stadium

The County Government of Siaya welcomed Betika officials on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 to assess the status of the ultramodern stadium in Siaya County as a follow-up to last week's meeting in Nairobi, in which Governor James Orengo hosted Betika Group CEO Mr. Mutua Mutava. This visit marks a continued collaboration aimed at creating a top-tier sports facility to benefit the region. The County Government's engagement with Betika underscores its commitment to investing in infrastructure that empowers the youth and promotes Siaya as a sporting hub.

The Betika delegation was led by Mr. Japheth Akholia, Head of Marketing, along with Brand Manager Eric Mwiti and Public Relations Manager Madam Kathrine Arudo. These officials conveyed a strong interest in partnering with the Siaya County Government to elevate sports as a tool for youth empowerment. “Sports are a vital platform for youth empowerment, and we are keen to contribute to Siaya County’s vision,” stated Mr. Akholia. This partnership reflects Betika’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster youth development and community well-being through sports.

Over the past year, the stadium's construction has seen remarkable progress, including the installation of roofing, overhead and underground water tanks, stairways, and protective railings on the terraces. These advancements lay a solid foundation for creating a safe, accessible, and world-class sports environment. Further enhancements, such as a state-of-the-art tartan rubber track and lighting masts, are set to be completed soon. The lighting masts will allow the stadium to host matches during the night, enhancing its usability and appeal for regional events.

With a seating capacity for up to 20,000 spectators, the stadium is scheduled for an official opening on January 1, 2025. The grand opening will feature an exciting match between the legendary Gor Mahia FC from Kenya and Tanzania's Yanga Sports Club, promising a memorable start for the facility. This high-profile event is anticipated to attract a large audience, promoting both the stadium and Siaya County as premier destinations for sports and entertainment in the region.

Accompanied by CECM for Tourism, Culture, Sports, and Arts Madam Anjeline Atieno Oduor, and Director of Sports Dr. Sanmac Okoth, the Betika team also visited the Migwena Sports and Cultural Center. This center has undergone recent renovations, including a new perimeter wall and upgraded changing rooms. Migwena will host twin events, the Migwena Festivities from December 28 to 29, followed by the Piny Luo Cultural Festival from December 30 to 31. This partnership with Betika strengthens Governor Orengo's commitment to cultivating strategic partnerships with local and international collaborators, positioning Siaya County as a prime hub for talent development and cultural enrichment.
