Governor James Orengo officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Ndigwa High Borehole in South Uyoma, Rarieda Sub-County.
Providing clean drinking water to students is a deliberate strategy to strengthen education in Siaya County. Under Governor Orengo’s leadership, the Nyalore Administration has made remarkable strides in transforming the educational landscape of the region. This comprehensive reform strategy has led to significant improvements and expansions of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) facilities, bringing the total number of public ECDE schools to over 689. These efforts include constructing new facilities and renovating existing ones, resulting in 360 new classrooms with 270 of which are fully equipped with furniture.
Additionally, more than 600 ECDE teachers have been employed on permanent and pensionable terms by the Nyalore Administration. The administration has also provided scholarships and capitation for vocational training centers (VTCs), while enhancing infrastructure in institutions such as Sega and Ndere, and constructing the Bar Sauri Educational Resource Center in Yala.
Earlier this year, Governor Orengo launched an ambitious school feeding program that now benefits more than 50,000 students across the county. The initiative is expected to enhance child-friendliness and encourage community involvement and ownership of the pre-primary feeding program, ultimately creating employment opportunities within the ECDE framework.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, the Governor was accompanied by Rarieda MP Dr. Otiende Amollo, Speaker of the County Assembly of Siaya Rt. Hon. George Okode, Chief Officer in charge of Governance, Administration, and ICT Hon. Walter Okelo, Chief Officer for Agriculture Mrs. Elizabeth Adongo, Director public communication, Chrispine Achieng host MCA Hon. Michael Adiala, and women leaders, including former nominated MCA Hon. Winnie Mercy Otieno, alias Simba Nyiri, among others.
