County Government of Siaya (CGS) Launches Routine Maintenance and Culverting for the Sigana B to Urewe Link Road and the Nyanginja Kaguta Nyamboyo Road

The County Government of Siaya (CGS) has initiated the routine maintenance and culverting of the 1.8km Sigana B to Urewe Link Road. This road connects Umala Junction to surrounding villages and is expected to improve the transportation of goods and services, thereby enhancing transportation efficiency.

Area residents, led by their Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Masidis Scolastica Madowo, expressed gratitude to the CGS, under the leadership of Governor James Orengo, for the murraming and culverting efforts. They noted that these improvements will enhance the flow of services, farm produce, and general transportation within the vast region of South East Alego Ward in Alego Usonga Sub-County.

Dr. Nicholas Kut Ochogo, the Chief Officer for Energy and Transport, announced that the county government has identified over two hundred roads for maintenance and construction across the county. He urged residents to utilize the new road effectively and promised that more roads in the area would be maintained in the upcoming financial year to ensure better accessibility.

Additionally, the CGS, through the Department of Roads, Public Works, Transport, and Energy, is upgrading the Nyanginja Kaguta Nyamboyo Road in the same ward by clearing, grading, and culverting. The 1.5km stretch linking the area from north to south is hailed by residents as a milestone for accessibility. They expressed relief, noting that maintenance work will be carried out and a culvert will be installed where the river flows. Previously, during heavy rains, children were unable to cross to school and often had to be carried on people's backs, which was extremely dangerous.

Proper maintenance of roads will ensure efficient water flow, enhance accessibility, boost the local economy by improving trade and local business operations, and promote development. This development will lead to the growth of infrastructure like businesses, promoting employment within the community, and ensuring schools and hospitals are more accessible, thereby improving healthcare.

Road construction and routine maintenance are key components of Governor Orengo's 9-Point Agenda for Siaya. Over the last two years, the Governor has been actively touring the sub-counties of Siaya, launching road construction projects to fulfill this commitment.
