Siaya Governor James Orengo today hosted a delegation from the United States of America, led by Madam Andrea Palm, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Loyce Pace, Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs (OGA) and Mandy K. Cohen, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The enduring partnership between Siaya County and the United States facilitated by the HHS and CDC has yielded significant improvements in healthcare outcomes. Notably, the prevalence of HIV has seen a remarkable decline from 20% to 14.7% with mother-to-child transmission rates plummeting to an impressive 4.3% surpassing the national average of 5%. Additionally, malaria prevalence has been effectively curbed, dropping from over 50% to 28% within a span of less than 10 years.
The continued support and unwavering commitment from the HHS and CDC are deeply appreciated. Their dedication to enhancing healthcare services in Siaya County has been instrumental in improving the well-being of our citizens.
