Farmer Field Day at Said Obama’s Farm in South East Alego

The Chief Officer for Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock & Blue Economy - Elizabeth Adongo officiated a Farmer Field Day at Said Obama's Farm in South East Alego that saw hundreds benefit from technical hands-on skills on how milk production can be enhanced through feeding their cows with new forage grass varieties that have high protein levels, drought resilient and are adaptable to pests and diseases.
This was Courtesy of a field day organized by the County Government of Siaya in collaboration with Ripple Effect Kenya and the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT through the 'Grass to Cash' project.
The Chief Guest commended the host farmer for how he has demonstrated the growth of forages as a source of income. She encouraged residents to learn from such lead farmers, particularly about the new Brachiara varieties with double protein content as compared to Napier grass which most farmers rely on.
She outlined the County's commitment to strengthen extension services at the Sub County and Ward level, especially in promoting the adoption of such research-based solutions as we strive to make food and Agriculture systems more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive.
