KfW German Reconstruction Bank Team Visits Agricultural Sites Earmarked for FLLoCA Projects in Siaya

The County Government of Siaya led by the CECM for Water, Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources Prof. Jacqueline Oduol, on Thursday 24th October 2024 welcomed a high-level delegation from KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) to discuss collaborative opportunities aimed at enhancing local agricultural practices and sustainable development initiatives. The German delegation, led by Portfolio Manager Armin Fleischer, included Priscillah Kinyari from KfW, and officials from the Kenya’s National Treasury's FLLoCA Program Implementation Unit, together with Abraham Barsosio (Program Manager for County Coordination), Selelah Okoth (Environmental Safeguards Specialist), and Simon Ochieng' (Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist).

 

The meeting acted as a precursor to two field visits in Siriwo area in Sidundo Sub/Location - Usonga Ward, where Nyambure Feeder Block 10 is undertaking rice farming and Tatro Fish ponds in Anyiko, Yala Township Ward. These projects align with Governor James Orengo’s commitment to revamp agriculture as a foundation of rural economic growth and fostering youth and women empowerment within the community.

 

Residents, particularly the youth who have benefitted from the National Government FLLoCA and the Siaya County Government, expressed their hopes and expectations for the joint venture projects that will be developed in the Alego Usonga Siriwo area. Their enthusiasm is a reflective of the positive impact these initiatives are expected to have on the local economy and community empowerment.

 

Prof. Oduol reaffirmed the County Government's commitment to ensuring that the residents benefit from these projects. Echoing the sentiments of Governor James Orengo, she stated, "Every effort will be made to ensure residents receive the full benefits as expected from the Nyalore Administration." This strategic partnership between the County Government of Siaya and the German investors marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable agricultural practices and empowering the local community, particularly the youth and women who are integral to the region's agricultural landscape.

 

The meeting between the Siaya County Government and the German delegation represents a pivotal moment in the partnership aimed at transforming the agricultural sector in Siaya County by creating a lasting impact that will improve the livelihoods of residents and drive economic prosperity in the region.
