The County Government of Siaya (CGS), led by Governor James Orengo, has commissioned the Olago Water Project in Nyangoma Division, Bondo Sub-County. This initiative will provide residents of Central Sakwa, South Sakwa, and parts of North Sakwa wards with a reliable supply of clean water.
Located along the shores of Liunda Beach, the plant promises to breathe new life into the area by offering distilled and treated water at no additional cost to residents. The project brings hope and convenience to the community, ensuring access to safe water for daily use.
Designed to produce 2,500 cubic liters of water, the Ksh.46 million project, executed by DNT Engineers, is expected to be fully operational within six months. Once completed, it will deliver free and safe drinking water to the three wards effectively.
Addressing residents after commissioning the project, Gov. Orengo assured the locals that the new pump will be installed at the site to complete consistent power supply to enable sustainable water generation for residents. The Governor, who was accompanied by CECM for Environment, Water, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Prof. Hon. Jacquiline Oduol, also promised that the supply will be boosted by solar panels to upscale water production, adding that phase two will start after the project kicks off so that the area can have everlasting water provision to promote sustainable production.
In addition, the County Boss promised to ensure that additional and adequate funds are allocated for Uyawi Health Centre during the current ongoing budget-making process. This, he noted, will promote mother-to-child deliveries and reduce mortality rate.
Other leaders present included Chief Officer for Public Works Eng. Kevin Ajul, Director for Water Mr. Henry Juma, Bondo Sub County Administrator Mr. Vincent Kanyangoda, Sub County Environment Officer Mr. Nicholas Owino, his forest counterpart Tracy Aoko among others.
The provision of safe, clean, and accessible water for drinking and agricultural use is a key pillar of Governor Orengo’s 9-Point Agenda, as outlined in the Nyalore Manifesto. This initiative underscores his commitment to improving the quality of life for Siaya residents through sustainable development.
