Othoche ECDE Block Commissioned in West Uyoma Ward

The CECM for Education, Youth Affairs, Gender and Social Services, Dr. Edgar Otumba commissioned the newly constructed Othoche Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) block in West Uyoma Ward, Rarieda Sub-County in the company of the Director of Education and Training and Rarieda Sub-County ECDE officer. Funded by the County Government of Siaya, this project is meant to enhance learning for school-going children in the area. The establishment of such centers proves the government’s endeavor to improve the education standards particularly at the basic level.

 

While addressing the parents of Othoche Comprehensive School, Dr. Otumba emphasized the commitment of the Nyalore Government towards the improvement of ECDE learning in the county. He also explained the establishment of a county feeding program for ECDE that would help feed all the young learners, an aspect that he indicated would enhance both attendance and results. He also observed that the County Government is providing learning and teaching materials to various ECDE schools and enhancing the recruitment of adequately trained teachers to teach the ever-increasing number of early childhood learners.

 

Dr. Otumba was quick to expand on the progress observed in the provision of employment for ECDE teachers, noting that in the Nyalore Administration, the teachers are employed on permanent and pensionable basis, which gives security of job and professionalism. In his speech, he highlighted that 370 ECDE centers have been put up and 187 of these facilities are fully equipped with all the teaching learning materials and necessities for the young children in their early learning stage. This level of investment shows the readiness of the County Government to build a sound basing for the education system starting from the grass root.

 

The event was also honored by West Uyoma MCA Hon. Justus Oguta Obuya who was the host to Dr Otumba and team. The MCA commended the County Government for its support to early childhood education in his ward stating that such an undertaking would transform the learning and social development of the community. He said that he has confidence in the commitment of the county and other stakeholders to harness efforts in the education section for constant improvements.
