Governor James Orengo today officiated the launch of The Siaya County 10 year Physical and Land Use Development Plan 2023-2032. The plan seeks to help manage the ongoing land-sector reforms. The Spatial Plan was done in collaboration with professional consultancies such as the Food Organization(FAO) of the United Nations, Digital Land Governance Program and the Siaya County Government Department of Lands Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development.The Governor affirmed that the plan is a huge milestone for Siaya residents and seeks to address the Yala Delta issue with an aim to ensure its environs flourish and are enriched.
Governor Orengo also noted that activities which are driven by the desire to create settlements, expansion of towns, clearing of land for crop farming and other economic activities have left major scars on the County's landscape.
He noted that faced with the realities of a changing world and the need to remain authentic to their culture and traditional source of livelihoods, the urgency of aligning strategies to maximize the utility of the land resource and protect eco-fragile resources to thrive in a sustainable manner is inevitable.
Siaya prides itself as the First County to launch the Spatial plan within the Nyanza region and the 14th in the entire Country. This marks the beginning of a journey for an organized town and amenities.
