World Radiographers Day in Siaya Highlights Key Services

Siaya County commemorated its inaugural World Radiographers Day on November 8, 2024, at the Mulaha Dispensary, which provided an invaluable platform to highlight the extensive radiography services provided by Nyalore Government, including CT scans, ultrasounds, plain X-rays, mammography for breast cancer screening, and orthopantomograms (OPGs) for assessing the lower face, teeth, and jaws. Additionally, specialized contrast examinations such as micturating cysto-urethro grams (MCUs), human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) tests, intravenous urograms (IVUs), and barium studies were discussed. The community was encouraged to embrace these technological advancements in medical imaging, which significantly improve disease detection and diagnosis.

 

Notably, Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems enhanced by artificial intelligence at Siaya County Referral Hospital have proven effectiveness in identifying various conditions, including tuberculosis. These innovations have made a significant shift from traditional medical practices underscoring the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. Such technological progress has also facilitated crucial health initiatives like the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV Women were specifically urged to seek out ultrasound services to determine fetal gender, detect potential deformities, and identify risks such as ectopic pregnancies.

 

As the event concluded, Eglah Cheptoo, the County Radiographer Coordinator, emphasized the necessity for individuals to commit to annual health screenings. "Understanding our health status can empower us to live fulfilling lives and prevent diseases from advancing unnoticed," she stated. This call to action highlights the importance of proactive health measures in safeguarding the well-being of our community.
